Watchman Monitoring keeps tabs on all flavors of CrashPlan backups. From the Green Home user plans, to Blue for Business, and CrashPlan Black Enterprise (PROe). Along with monitoring the backup status at the end-point layer, our CrashPlan server plugin notifies IT Professionals should the nightly 1 AM backup fail to happen.
While this is normally a sign of a crashed server, or other horrid situation, the spring-forward aspect of Daylite Savings Time has an unintended side effect of causing the server to skip its nightly backup as time “springs forward.” In the US and Canada, this will happen tonight (March 8th, 2015), causing Watchman Monitoring subscribers to receive, not a false warning, but one that doesn’t signify a major issue.
Here’s what to do:
- Nothing, as this is not a big problem; just be aware the warning will happen.
- Optional: Run a manual backup sometime during the day before its clock rolls forward.
Running a manual CrashPlan ProE Server database dump:
CrashPlan PRO 3.8.10
- Point your web browser to your CrashPlan server admin interface
- Log in as an Admin
- Click on Settings from the top menu
- Click on Dump Database in the left-hand menu
- Click “Export the database to disk immediately.”
CrashPlan PROe 3.3+
- Point your web browser to your CrashPlan server admin interface
- Log in as an Admin
- Double-click the CRASHPLANPROe icon in the upper-left corner
- Enter the command `export.database` just below the words “Command Line Interface”
Verify the dump export
In either version, you can confirm that a new dump has been created by looking on a Mac at
/Library/Application Support/CrashPlan/PROServer/dumps
or on Linux server
/var/opt/proserver/dumps
